Documents origin
Below you will find a description of the different possible document origins, as well as the situations in which they should be selected during the analysis.
Warning
This is a step that requires special attention, as an incorrectly declared origin may lead to alerts or inconsistencies in the file analysis (for the Pro verification level).
Photo not sent via WhatsApp (or other messaging apps)¶
This option should be selected when the document was photographed directly using a camera or smartphone, and then transmitted without going through a messaging application.
Typical cases:
- Photo taken with the phone camera
- Photo sent by email
- Photo uploaded directly from the gallery
- Photo taken with a digital camera
Why choose this option?
Files generally retain:
- complete EXIF metadata (device, date, orientation),
- native image quality,
- little or no recompression.
This origin allows for a more reliable technical analysis of the file.
Info
Prefer this option whenever possible, as it enables the most in-depth file analysis. Do not hesitate to ask for the original photo to be sent by email rather than relying on an image shared via WhatsApp.
Screenshot or photo sent via WhatsApp (or other messaging apps)¶
This option should be selected when the document was:
- photographed, then
- sent via a messaging application (WhatsApp, Messenger, Telegram, etc.),
- or when it is directly a screenshot.
Typical cases:
- Photo sent via WhatsApp or SMS
- Image downloaded from a conversation
- Screenshot of a document displayed on a screen
Things to know:
- Messaging applications remove or alter metadata
- Images are often recompressed
- Some technical information may be lost
This behavior is normal and is taken into account during the analysis.
Warning
Avoid submitting an image or photo retrieved via WhatsApp, as the image is re-encoded and loses its original data. The analysis is therefore less accurate than with an original photo shared by email, for example.
Scan¶
This option should be selected when the document comes from a scanner, whether it is:
- professional,
- multifunction,
- or a mobile scanning application.
Typical cases:
- PDF or image scan
- Document scanned via a printer
- Mobile scanning application (e.g. Adobe Scan, CamScanner, etc.)
Specific characteristics:
- No camera-related metadata
- Possible presence of scanning software information
- Generally uniform and well-aligned image
This origin is suitable for intentionally digitized documents.
Info
Scanners generally do not add metadata to documents; the analysis is therefore less precise than with an original photo shared by email, for example.
Other¶
This option should be used when none of the previous origins clearly match your situation.
Examples:
- Document converted or exported from a software tool
- Image originating from an internal system
- Atypical or non-standard case
Warning
If in doubt, select the option that is closest to reality, preferably from those listed above.
